Yeshivat Porat Yosef is one of the great Sephardi yeshivot of Jerusalem. It was founded in the Old City in 1923 with the support of the philanthropist Yosef Shalom of Calcutta, and became a home for generations of Sephardi Torah scholars.

The young Ovadia Yosef studied at Porat Yosef under its Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Ezra Attiya, who recognized his extraordinary gifts and guided his path in Torah. Many of the leading Sephardi rabbis of the twentieth century learned in its halls.

The yeshiva's original Old City building was destroyed in 1948. Learning continued in other neighborhoods of Jerusalem, and after 1967 the yeshiva was rebuilt in the Old City, facing the Western Wall.

This page shares the history of Porat Yosef and its connection to Maran. Moreshet Maran is a separate Kollel; donations on this website support the Kollel of Moreshet Maran, not Yeshivat Porat Yosef.
